How many Angels has the Wendt & Kuhn Company made
How many Angels has the Wendt & Kuhn Company made
How many Angels has the Wendt & Kuhn Company made is a very good question. The records department of the Wendt & Kuhn can probably run the figures up, but at this point no one is really sure.
What is known about the Wendt & Kuhn Angels and their numbers is that they have been produced every year since 1915. That makes 2011 their 96th year in continuous production. There are also 16 new Wendt & Kuhn Angels starting production this year. There are also 10 other non- Wendt & Kuhn Angels being offered for the first time this year.
The Wendt & Kuhn Angels have been produced since the very first year, but the Grunhainichen Angels have only been produced now for 88 years. Every so often there is a limited run on a Wendt & Kuhn Angel that is being produced. This means only 9,999 will be made. Most of these limited editions are offered for 2 years.
The Gold Wendt & Kuhn Angels also have limited run editions but that number is smaller at 5,555 per angel.
There have also been 13 items including 8 Wendt & Kuhn Angels that have been discontinued since 2010. This will last for a minimum of 5 years before they can be brought back to production.
Another way of looking for the total number of Wendt & Kuhn Angels that have been made is to look at the numbering system the Wendt & Kuhn company uses. All of the new ones have a number 650 on them and there are 9 in this series of 10,000 each which produces a number of 56,160,000,000. This number may be a little high
There are a total of 69 Wendt & Kuhn Angels in the orchestra. Take that number times the 96 years they have been in business with a limited production run of each at 9,999 then the grand total would be 66,233,376.
Now you have to figure in that not everyone is made each year and that in the early years the orchestra was smaller. Plus the production run each year is still an unknown. It could be larger than the limited production runs of the special edition Wendt & Kuhn Angels.
Another number that is still unknown is the special orders that are made for the customers in Sweden each year. This throws a large monkey wrench into the figures.
Now you have to figure in the communist years. During the Soviet occupation to direct shipments to the world was not possible. In 1972 the nationalization of the shop occurred to help the communist government earn hard currency. This little company had already grown a following overseas in which 75% of its production was destined there. That was in 1920. After 1972 97% of all production went overseas. This all changed in 1990 when the iron curtain fell and the Wendt & Kuhn shop was once again privately owned.
So how many Angels has the Wendt & Kuhn Company made can be narrowed down to 10 to 66 million give or take a few.
